Sainsbury’s has pledged to double the amount of British food it sells by 2020

Sainsbury’s will launch a £1 billion sustainability plan today, in which it pledges to double the amount of British food it sells by 2020.

The promise to back British food is part of Sainsbury’s ‘20 by 20 Sustainability Plan’, in which the grocer is undertaking to meet 20 sustainability targets by 2020. Another key target of the retailer is to reduce absolute operational carbon emissions by 30 per cent and relative operational carbon emissions by 65 per cent on 2005 levels. Sainsbury’s, which claims to the «greenest grocer», said the measures would ensure the company remains at the forefront of sustainability over the coming decade.

La Ciudad Universitaria de Madrid contará con un Plan de Movilidad Sostenible para «identificar necesidades y objetivos y, en base a ellos», mejorar la circulación en la zona, según han confirmado a Europa Press fuentes del Consorcio del Campus madrileño.

A modo más específico, el Plan se marca como objetivo la puesta en marcha de «medidas de control y ordenación de tráfico, de regulación del estacionamiento, la potenciación del transporte colectivo o la recuperación de espacio público con áreas protegidas para peatones y ciclistas».

WASHINGTON — Freakish weather disasters — from the sudden October snowstorm in the Northeast U.S. to the record floods in Thailand — are striking more often. And global warming is likely to spawn more similar weather extremes at a huge cost, says a draft summary of an international climate report obtained by The Associated Press.

The final draft of the report from a panel of the world’s top climate scientists paints a wild future for a world already weary of weather catastrophes costing billions of dollars.

Brasil propone que Río 20 vincule el medio ambiente al desarrollo social

Brasil aspira a que la Conferencia sobre Desarrollo Sostenible Río+20, que acogerá en junio de 2012, permita crear consensos sobre la necesidad de vincular el cuidado del medio ambiente al avance social y económico, dijeron hoy fuentes oficiales.

La conferencia se celebrará en Río de Janeiro 20 años después de la Cumbre de la Tierra, realizada en esa misma ciudad en 1992, y aunque será de corte más conceptual que resolutiva, «facilitará un debate» que podrá influir en otras discusiones, indicó en rueda de prensa la ministra de Medio Ambiente de Brasil, Izabella Teixeira.
