Sony comienza la carrera por un futuro más sostenible

Con el propósito de conseguir un futuro más sostenible a medio plazo, la marca japonesa junto con la ONG Forum for the Future ha puesto en marcha una iniciativa internacional conocida como FutureScapes. Dividida en tres fases, expertos en tecnología, filósofos, periodistas, políticos, etcétera buscarán la manera de conseguir que la tecnología y el cuidado del planeta vayan de la mano. Anteayer concluyó la primera fase del proyecto.

Bali’s New Big Tree Chocolate Factory is the World’s Largest Commercial Bamboo Structure

Big Tree Farms is a sustainable farm and artisanal food company that has been producing fresh foods and delicious chocolate for over a decade. The success of the chocolate arm of the company has taken off since its inception, and growing demand for the confection has called the need for a brand new factory to house all those sweets. Built near Ubud in Bali, Indonesia, the beautiful pitched-roof factory, is made almost entirely of sustainable bamboo, making it the world’s largest commercial building constructed from the material.

Como surge y qué objetivos tiene LEED

Las primeras versiones del sistema de calificación de edificios sostenibles que más tarde daría lugar al sistema LEED se remontan a principios de los años 90. En 1992, existía un subcomité dentro de la organización ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) encargado de desarrollar un estándar para edificación sostenible. David Gottfried que posteriormente fue co-fundador del US Green Building Council estaba a la cabeza de este comité.

Como resultado de los trabajos de este grupo, se formó en 1993 una coalición de varias organizaciones relacionadas con la edificación que pretendía atraer a todos los actores relacionados con la edificación, con la intención explícita de crear un estándar de edificación sostenible.

Así es como fue fundado el USGBC a mediados de los noventa y se empezó a trabajar en las primeras versiones de un sistema de edificación sostenible, que ya en 1998 fue denominado LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

China may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about places that American organic farmers could learn from. But a group of American advocates of a safe and sustainable food chain learned a few things on their recent trip to organic farms near Beijing.

The chickens at this farm seem happy. They’re outside, with room to move around, and an airy, sunny coop to go into when they want to rest, or lay an egg.

Hudson River Brownfield Site Transformed Into Sustainable Long Dock Park

Like much of New York’s waterfront, the Hudson River’s edge in Beacon, NY was a critical industrial dock in the 19th century. But now, after decades of being used as a ferry dock, oil terminal, and junkyard, Long Dock Park has been completely transformed from a polluted brownfield site into a sustainably-designed riverfront destination. The Architecture Research Office (ARO) built a new boat pavilion and restored a 150-year-old barn to create an arts and recreation center for Scenic Hudson, both of which are located in a pollution-reducing 15-acre park by landscape architecture firm Reed Hilderbrand.
