This new sustainable social housing project in St-Agatha-Berchem, Belgium was completed this year and takes inspiration from historic projects in the city. The cubic, contemporary project was designed by Buro II & Archi+I to exceed Belgium’s new energy efficiency standards. The white cubic volumes are accented with warm wood and rich green garden areas, and the complex also takes advantage of solar power, rainwater collection and eco-friendly materials.

Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label being promoted at WTM

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) is for the first time being promoted at the World Travel Market (WTM) with the support of the UNDP GEF. The SSTL is a Sustainable Tourism Management and Certification program designed specifically for use in Seychelles. It is voluntary user-friendly and specifically designed to inspire more efficient and sustainable ways of doing business. The program has been developed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program under the Global Environment Facility (UNDP GEF) and it falls under the UNDP-GEF funded project which is mainstreaming biodiversity in the tourism sector. It is aligned with the GSTC’s Criteria (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) but has been drawn on local knowledge.

Debido a que la Secretaría de Turismo carece de criterios sustentables para tener en México un turismo responsable y a que los turistas ya comienzan a planear sus vacaciones, Greenpeace elaboró una guía de consejos útiles para que sean aplicados por los grupos hoteleros que operan en nuestro país y también un Decálogo del turista sustentable para que sea usado por las personas que visitan los diferentes destinos de descanso en toda la república.

Los criterios sustentables que deben aplicar las empresas turísticas tienen como base las recomendaciones emitidas por la Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT). Así mismo, el Decálogo explica qué deben hacer los vacacionistas para ejercer un turismo sustentable y están adaptados para la situación en México.

This past Wednesday, I joined my fellow members of the US Green Building Council – Miami chapter – for “An Evening at the Palms Hotel & Spa”. Beginning the evening at the on-site Organic Chef’s Garden for a tour and tasting, we then convened in Queen Palm (one of nine meeting rooms available at the hotel) for the “Inspired by Nature” program. We ended with a tour of the hotel and spa.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, RIVIERA MAYA, MX A 26 DE NOVIEMBRE.- Con la presencia de especialistas, científicos, y representantes de los sectores social, académico, empresarial y gobierno, el próximo 27 y 28 de noviembre se llevará a cabo en Tulum el Primer Congreso Internacional Sobre Turismo Sostenible Riviera Maya, el cual tiene la intención de hacer del noveno municipio un laboratorio enfocado a desarrollar políticas y prácticas sustentables que puedan aplicarse en Quintana Roo, y ser ejemplo en México.
