Sustainable tourism a priority for Vietnamese officials

Although tourism officials in Vietnam are keen to attract international visitors, some experts have expressed concerns about the importance of sustainability in the sector, reports Vietnam Net Bridge.

At a recent conference held in Hanoi, Dr. Ha Van Sieu, director of the Institute of Tourism Development and Research, warned attendees of the dangers of failing to implement sustainable tourism initiatives. Pollution and the exploitation of natural resources were among the threats identified during the conference.

Buildings consume significant amounts of energy. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) in the Department of Energy (DOE) reported that buildings accounted for 72 percent of total U.S. electricity consumption in 2006 and this number will rise to 75 percent by 2025.  This is split almost 50/50 between commercial and residential buildings.
