Nelson Cultural Center: A LEED Gold Addition to the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis

The American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis underwent a major expansion this summer with the addition of the Nelson Cultural Center. Designed by locally-headquartered firm HGA, the new extension incorporates contemporary design, traditional Swedish aesthetics and a number of sustainable strategies. The Nelson Cultural Center is anticipating LEED Gold certification due to its sustainable building strategies, which include geothermal heating and cooling, a green roof and much more.

La Junta apuesta por el turismo que ofrezca experiencias diferenciadas

La directora general de , Paloma Gutiérrez, ha asegurado hoy que a los turistas que visitan los Parques Nacionales y espacios protegidos de Castilla-La Mancha hay que ofrecerle experiencias diferenciadas, además de recursos naturales.

Gutiérrez, que ha participado hoy en la inauguración de las I Jornadas sobre Turismo Sostenible en Espacios Naturales protegidos que se celebran en Villarrubia de los Ojos (Ciudad Real), ha señalado que aunque «los espacios naturales de Castilla-La Mancha constituyen una verdadera sorpresa para el visitante» hay que comenzar a comercializar «experiencias diferenciadas».

Swedish firm DAPstockholm designed Villa Midgard – a modern single-family residence inspired by the natural materiality of its site outside of Stockholm.The clients wanted the home to be secluded and immersed in its natural surroundings so that they could enjoy the sound of rain playing off the roof or the morning sun hitting their beds. This prompt allowed the architects to explore the nature of the sloping site and the materials that formed it. As a result, the building has seven different facades which respond to the three dramatic factors of the site: the lighting, the terrain, and the views.

Turismo responsable for dummies

A nadie ya le cabe ninguna duda sobre la necesidad imperiosa de plantearse el desarrollo turístico sobre la base de la sostenibilidad. Sostenibilidad además soportada en sus tres patas, puesto que si una de ellas falla, el modelo no se aguanta.

Pero por mucho que los destinos, y las empresas de consultoría que para ellos trabajamos, intenten incorporar criterios de sostenibilidad en su planificación y desarrollo turístico, de poco sirven si luego los y las visitantes se comportan como Atila, hacen todo lo que no hacen en su casa y se sienten con más derechos simplemente por pagar por dormir y comer. Pedimos por tanto que los visitantes tengan un comportamiento responsable, es decir, que practiquen un turismo responsable. ¿Y qué es el turismo responsable? Os adjunto una definición que he encontrado en el portal de turismo de Nueva Zelanda, que me parece sencilla y clara:
