Luxury Travel Company, Absolute Travel, Demonstrates Sustainable Tourism with New Philanthropic Arm, Absolute Awareness

Absolute Travel, «The world’s top luxury travel specialists, creating your ideal journey,» has launched a philanthropic arm, Absolute Awareness, as part of their sustainable tourism efforts. This is their first platform to highlight the philanthropic projects they have been involved with for years.

 

We are on the front lines of experiential travel and recognize the responsibility tourism has in protecting the destinations we love around the world.

 

 

 

The award-winning luxury travel company has selected organizations for Absolute Awareness with the intention to boost exposure for their honorable work, while also creating enriching substantive travel experiences for their clients that allow them to deepen their connection to a destination and its people.

“We are on the front lines of experiential travel and recognize the responsibility tourism has in protecting the destinations we love around the world,» said Absolute Travel president and founder Ken Fish. “Absolute Awareness enables us to connect our clients with powerful experiences—on the ground—when they are the most relevant. That not only enriches our clients’ journeys, but also protects the places and people we care about most effectively.”

The organizations selected for Absolute Awareness include: American Jewish World Service, Basik 855, Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture, Conservation Through Public Health, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Philanthropy Indaba, Ubuntu Education Fund and Wildlife Alliance.

“Absolute Travel is rooted in our staff’s passion for exploring the world. Absolute Awareness is about putting that passion to work to better that world,” said Absolute Travel general manager, Leslie Overton.

In addition to Absolute Awareness, a new section of their website, Philanthropic Experiences, highlights ways travelers can weave the organizations’ missions into their trips—customized to their interests and schedule. Travelers have the option of including short-term philanthropic experiences into more traditional trips (think ½ day excursions) as well as more immersive volunteer vacations that can last more than two weeks. Examples include half-day gorilla treks alongside distinguished conservation experts in Uganda and 7-day trips alongside leaders of the global justice movement in Cambodia.

La Montaña quiere la «Carta Europea de Turismo Sostenible»

Empresarios, administraciones y agentes relacionados con el turismo daban ayer los primeros pasos para poder conseguir en un futuro cercano la concesión de la Carta Europea de Turismo Sostenible para todo el territorio de la Montaña Palentina. Un primer encuentro  organizado  por la Consejería de Fomento y Medio Ambiente  (Parque Natural de Fuentes Carrionas) y el grupo de acción local del territorio norteño.
Una reunión de trabajo que se celebró en La Casona de Cervera y que fue presentada por el delegado de la Junta, Luis Domingo González; la vicepresidenta de la Diputación, Ana María Asenjo; el alcalde de Cervera, Urbano Alonso; y el director del Parque de Fuentes Carrionas, Pablo Zuazúa.

Disabled Tourists Access Sustainable Tourism in Ecuador

Alfonso Eliécer Morales has spent his life turning adversity into opportunity. Despite an accident that left him unable to walk, he has excelled as an athlete: playing on Ecuador’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team in the 1989 Special Pan American Games; participating in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta; and creating and riding in the first wheelchair tour of Ecuador. Morales has also become a disability advocate, lecturing at nearly a dozen national and international events, and serving from 2005 to 2009 as a councilman for his community. Today, Morales owns and operates Hostal Familiar Las Grandillas, a Rainforest Alliance Verified lodge in Baños, Ecuador that caters to disabled tourists.

Ventilación natural

La ventilación natural, una medida denominada pasiva, permite refrigerar y renovar el aire interior de los edificios, sin realizar ningún consumo energético. Gracias a este tipo de soluciones se pueden conseguir ahorros energéticos de entre el 10 y el 30% en concepto de refrigeración.

Como sabemos por elPrincipio de Arquímedes, las masas de aire caliente se desplazan hacia las partes altas de las estancias. La ventilación natural consiste en favorecer las condiciones para que se produzcan corrientes de aire, de manera que el ambiente interior sea renovado por el aire del exterior. Así se consigue un doble objetivo: por un lado renovar el aire viciado y, por otro, reducir la sensación de calor en un ambiente sobrecalentado.

UNWTO to work with Arab countries on promotion of sustainable tourism

UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai and Casa Arabe Director General Eduardo Lopez Busquets have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote sustainable tourism development and strengthen institutional capacity in Arab countries.

Signed at UNWTO headquarters in Madrid, the Memorandum furthers cooperation between UNWTO and Casa Arabe in common interest areas, including sustainable tourism and institutional capacity building aimed towards socioeconomic growth and poverty alleviation.

El ecoturismo debe ser una herramienta de educación ambiental

José Purisaca Puicón, gerente general de Inka Terra Asociación, afirmó que el ecoturismo “debe desarrollar nuevas prácticas, conservar bien el ambiente, ser un aporte para el mejoramiento de las condiciones de vida de las poblaciones locales, para lo cual tienen que capacitarse”.
