Multi-Destination Tourism (MDT) is an issue of regional importance that will be discussed at the upcoming Meeting of the Special Committee on Sustainable Tourism of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), according to BreakingTravelNews.com. The heads of different aspects and issues relating to tourism in the Caribbean will be discussing the best way to promote the Caribbean, both domestically and abroad.

For the last five years, the ACS has been developing a Multi-Destination Tourism program to facilitate dialogue and cooperation among the regional stakeholders in the tourism and the transporttation sectors of the Caribbean. They are trying to preserve the “Caribbean” as a destination market share in other markets and increase the flow of tourists within the region.

The Directorate is organizing Aviation Day Caribbean as part of an outreach effort to the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA). Aviation Day Caribbean will bring together the Regional Tourism and Transport Authorities with airlines executives to facilitate collaboration, networking and dialogue.  The event is scheduled for November 13, 2013, in Cancun, Mexico, and the ACS will be partnering with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and ALTA to host the event.

The event will advocate exploring incentives within the region to strengthen regional air carriers, enhance intra-regional travel and increase the number of connections between regional and international airlines as part of a broad strategy to increase tourist arrivals from around the world.

Another important topic that the event will address is regional collaboration in regard to sustainable tourism. The Sustainable Tourism Zone of the Greater Caribbean (STZC) is a topic of importance. It’s still in the conceptual stage, and as such will be a topic of conversation, with regional cooperation and funding agencies facilitating consultation with regional and funding agencies to assist in the planning process.

The project aims to expand the Sustainability Indicators Project, which will include at least one destination in each of the ACS Member States. A web site will be dedicated to providing information, marketing and resources to support the establishment and promotion of the STZC and the Greater Caribbean Region in international tourism markets.
