Potenciar una actividad de turismo en el medio rural, en el marco de una apuesta por la sostenibilidad, no tiene sentido sin tener en cuenta esta necesaria vertiente. Aquella que propicia una colaboración activa y real entre el sector turístico y el sector primario local, tratando de posicionar los destinos turísticos rurales como destinos Ecogastronómicos.
Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, has signed an MOU with Mr. Kirschlee Naidoo from Insane Fitness & Nutrition, Pretoria, South Africa, on the sidelines of the recent INDABA Tourism Trade Fair which was held in Durban from May 10-12, 2014.
The aim of the MOU is to develop, promote, and strengthen joint relationships between the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Seychelles and Insane Fitness & Nutrition in sports tourism as a niche market in South Africa.
Through the different marketing and promotion projects that Insane Fitness & Nutrition is currently involved with in South Africa, Seychelles would automatically be promoted. For instance, cooperation with regards to the 2015 Carnaval International de Victoria of the Seychelles is already in the planning phase, whereby a group of elite athletes and fitness models are being prepared and selected to be part of the South African sports delegation who will travel to Seychelles to be part of the carnival. Mr. Naidoo says: “It is a privilege for me to be partnering with the Seychelles Tourism Board in being one of the main promoters for the 2015 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria of Seychelles in South Africa, and at the same promoting Seychelles as a sports tourism destination which I believe will attract more South Africans to the Seychelles archipelago.”
Another area of interest, which the Seychelles Tourism Board in South Africa is initiating, is to develop golf tourism as a niche market. The idea is to attract golfers to the designer golf course at the Constance Lemuria Resort on the island of Praslin in the Seychelles and make an annual golf tournament in Seychelles in partnership with other stakeholders in the industry. To bring more value to the golf tournament, Mr. Naidoo is introducing “Cross Fit Training” to the tournament. Mr. Naidoo said: “A Cross Fit program applies to all individuals, no matter what your age or fitness level. Our training approach emphasizes fundamental, functional movements with proper technique, basics first. By utilizing ever-changing workouts, a combination of bodyweight, weightlifting, and high-intensity drills, you will experience fitness first hand.”
Insane has already establish a good working relationship with the Seychelles Tourism Board Office in South Africa, and through the MOU this would be further consolidated. Marsha Parcou, the Seychelles Tourism Board Regional Manager for South Africa, said: “Tourism is one of fastest-growing and competitive industries in the world, therefore, in order to maintain our market share, it is important to synergize our marketing efforts with other stakeholders in order to achieve our marketing objectives.” She further added: “When we look at forming a partnership with potential partners, it is not just about affiliation, it is about the passion, commitment, and positive contribution that they can bring to our existing strategies, and I believe that the Insane Fitness & Nutrition culture is a natural fit with ours.”
Minister St.Ange believes that these marketing campaigns will promote Seychelles as more than just a sun, sea, and sand tourism destination, but instead as one where the country’s culture and their people are clearly positioned at the center of their development. “We thank Mr. Naidoo and the team at Insane Fitness & Nutrition for committing to work with Seychelles, the destination of choice today for South African holidaymakers. The presence of Mr. Naidoo and his delegation at this year’s carnival helped to showcase the friendly ties Seychelles and South Africa today enjoy,” said Minister St.Ange.

En ella quiere que se realicen, en colaboración con las asociaciones empresariales, actuaciones para la divulgación del registro único y los beneficios de la integración de la gestión del cambio climático en su estrategia empresarial.
El PP ha presentado una iniciativa en el Congreso de los Diputados en la que insta al Gobierno a fomentar el cálculo voluntario de la huella de Carbono en las empresas, a través de una proposición no de ley para su debate en la Comisión de Cambio Climático, a la que ha tenido acceso Europa Press.
En ella quiere que se realicen, en colaboración con las asociaciones empresariales, actuaciones para la divulgación del registro único y los beneficios de la integración de la gestión del cambio climático en su estrategia empresarial.
Los ‘populares’ recuerdan que, según la Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación (AENOR), la huella de carbono es el «instrumento para determinar, evaluar y comunicar el efecto de los productos, servicios y organizaciones en el cambio climático».
Además de cuantificar el impacto sobre el cambio climático, los ‘populares’ señalan que el cálculo de la huella de carbono permite identificar los puntos de mejora en la estructura corporativa, edificios y procesos industriales, o en todo el ciclo de vida de un producto.
Igualmente, recalcan que existen diferentes métodos para la medición de la huella de carbono, llevando a cabo un inventario de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero, mediante la aplicación de normativas internacionales reconocidas.
PARTE DE LA ESTRATEGIA EMPRESARIAL
Muchas empresas, especialmente grandes organizaciones, ya han elaborado y verificado sus huellas de carbono, como parte de una estrategia de política medioambiental, pero también como mecanismo para de transparencia para relacionarse con el resto de mundo empresarial o con la sociedad, agrega el PP.
El Grupo Popular insiste en que la comunicación de los resultados, además de contribuir a mejorar la reputación social corporativa de la organización, puede servir para implicar a los trabajadores y proveedores en las acciones de reducción, e informar a clientes e inversores.
Así, por ejemplo, cita al Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente que ha calculado, por segundo año consecutivo su huella de carbono, durante los años 2010 y 2011, además de haber identificado aquellas actividades o procesos responsables de la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero, generados en los edificios pertenecientes al citado departamento ministerial.
A su vez, resalta que el Ministerio ha anunciado la preparación de un Real Decreto para la creación del registro único del sistema voluntario de cálculo de la huella de carbono, su reducción y compensación por reducciones o por absorciones de dióxido de carbono.

EU member states will today convene in Brussels to debate a new list of 175 energy-intensive sectors that could be «protected» from the costs associated with climate change policies.
On Monday the European Commission unveiled the list, which proposes financial assistance to help a growing number of sectors that are considered to be at risk from relocating overseas to countries with less stringent climate policies.
Currently, 164 industries receive so-called «carbon leakage» support through the EU, but the new list includes an additional 11 sectorsthat could be eligible for protection from 2015 to 2019. Additions to the list include manufacturers of assembled parquet floors and food preparation firms.
Representatives from member states will gather to discuss the list for the first time today, with a final vote expected to take place before the summer break. The Commission said it hoped to adopt the new list by the end of the year.
The Commission confirmed financial assistance would primarily be made available by issuing eligible industries with free tradable carbon allowances under the EU’s emissions trading scheme (ETS). «Installations operating in these sectors and sub-sectors will receive a higher share of greenhouse gas emission allowances free of charge in 2015 to 2019 than other sectors», the Commission said in a statement.
The current list was adopted in 2009, and includes manufacturers of steel, lime, cement, refined petroleum products and aluminium. It was developed in response to industry fears that some manufacturers would seek to avoid the cost of carbon allowances and other climate policies by relocating to countries without binding carbon targets, such as China and India.
However, a study for the EU published late last year found that no business in Europe has relocated to another country without greenhouse gas restrictions since the ETS was launched in 2005. UK energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey has also warned that the EU risks «low-carbon leakage», whereby clean tech firms could move overseas if the bloc fails to deliver ambitious carbon-reduction policies for 2030.
The study sparked fresh calls from environmental campaigners for governments to reduce the level of financial support handed to carbon-intensive firms, amid fears that free allowances and tax breaks are diluting the impact of climate policies designed to encourage industrial firms to invest in more energy-efficient and low-emission technologies.
However, the debate over the proposed extension of the list of industries qualifying for financial support again demonstrates the EU’s willingness to accommodate carbon-intensive sectors that fear high energy costs could put them at a competitive disadvantage. It follows the publication last month of draft State Aid guidelines that seek to formalise the extent to which governments can provide financial assistance to carbon-intensive firms – proposals that effectively endorsed the German government’s strategy of providing financial support to its manufacturing base and theUK government’s proposal for £7bn of support for manufacturers through to 2020.
It may anger some environmental campaigners, but the EU’s strategy of «decarbonising without de-industrialising» means carbon-intensive firms can expect to enjoy free carbon allowances and financial assistance for years to come.

Los productores de café de Costa Rica tienen la posibilidad de aplicar tecnología en sus cultivos que les permita disminuir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero.
Este miércoles se anunció el inicio del proyecto Promoción del Crecimiento Verde y Bajo Carbono en el Sector Cafetalero de Costa Rica, que cuenta con $2 millones ejecutables durante 36 meses para el gremio mitigue su huella de carbono.
En el caso de las fincas, se tiende a incentivar el cultivo del café arbolado y en el uso de eficiente de los fertilizantes; mientras que en las firmas beneficiadoras, la intención es fomentar el ahorro energético con la modificación de los hornos para el secado del café, así como el uso del lecho de secado y la utilización de subproductos del beneficiado, entre otras medidas.
